SALES ASSISTANT

General Marine Services is an energetic, customer focused company. We have been supporting the marine industry for over 25 years and are proud of our customer support.

Our company is going from strength to strength; with new premises, a busy workshop and superb new retail outlet.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the front of house sales team at our brand new shop in the Westhaven marine precinct.

We are marine fluid handling specialists dealing with local recreational and commercial boat builders, DIY'ers, marine engineer contractors and also direct with the super yacht market.

Your duties would primarily centre around providing outstanding customer service, dealing with customers who enter our shop or contact us by phone or through our website.

Although it would be ideal to have an interest in the marine industry and some experience in pumps, hose, plumbing fittings and marine systems in general, it is not essential. The person we’re looking for prides themself on providing outstanding customer service and thrives on going the extra mile to assist our customers sourcing the items they are after.

In general, the ideal candidate would be able to tick all the below:

  • Enthusiasm and a genuine love of the sales role.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, listening and record-keeping skills.
  • Proven versatility and flexibility.
  • Be able to work as an individual using initiative and as a team member.
  • Ability to work accurately and at speed under often difficult conditions.
  • A broad knowledge of fluid handling products would be an advantage but training will be given.
  • Confidence to source parts from alternative suppliers.
  • The ability to recommend options and alternatives to customers.

Additional requirements for this position:

  • Written and spoken English with the ability to read and interpret parts catalogues and instructional material.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers in verbal and written forms.
  • Skills to prepare management reports in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to utilise the company’s sales equipment.
  • Aptitude to utilise the company’s sales reporting procedures.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have sufficient skills to confidently and accurately carry out sales department calculations.

So, if the prospect of working in a fast moving, growing company inspires you, and you believe you have what it takes, then submit your application now.

The successful candidate must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
